Urban Dynamics: Project News and Updates

Updated: 8/17/99

During July and August I have been busy reconciling and improving the temporal GIS for Detroit. John Vogel at Western Mapping Center in Menlo Park, California, has been helping me update the coverages. By the end of August we plan to have the reconciling completed and will release our data to collaborators for comments and suggestions for improvements.

I am also working on getting some topographic maps for the Canadian side of the river. The USGS did not include anything outside of the US border on many of the map and land use products they compiled, therefore, the extent of the river has not been captured for most of the time periods that have been mapped.

I have been contacted by Rose Ellison with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Detroit about collaborating to explain the effects of land use on water quality in the river. It is so great to have so many agencies and projects actually working together toward a common set of goals.

The American Heritage Rivers Page has updated their site with new information on the appointment of River Navigator John Hartig. Please go to http://www.epa.gov/rivers/update/update.html for more information.
