NLCD 1992 Downloadable Image Database

The downloadable NLCD 1992 image database contains reduced resolution state and regional NLCD images in .gif and .jpg formats. They are derived from the Albers projection images as so states on the east and west coasts retain their peculiar tilt toward the center of the country.

Sample Chip Imagery

Following are five examples of the land use/land cover data produced by the USGS Regional Land Cover Characterization project. These examples are taken from much larger data sets covering entire states. These land cover data sets are derived from early 1990s Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite data and show the level of detail available with the TM's 30 meter resolution. A total of 23 land use/land cover categories were defined for the Regional land cover mapping effort. Not all possible classes are represented below. For example, there is no "Perennial Ice/Snow".
